Archimandrite Athanasy Funeral Arrangements - 02/05/16

Fr. Archimandrite Athanasy reposed in the Lord at 11 a.m. this morning February 5th, 2016. Father's body will be in the Church from Saturday afternoon until Wednesday afternoon. A pannikhida before the funeral liturgy will be served on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. On Wednesday morning Metropolitan Tikhon will preside at the funeral liturgy with hours beginning at 9:10 a.m. The service for burial of a monastic will follow the Liturgy (approximately 11:30 a.m.) with the committal. All are welcome to break bread at a memorial luncheon following the services. May Fr. Athanasy's memory be eternal!

Feast of the Annunciation 2014 - 03/27/14

On Tuesday, March 25th, newly consecrated Bishop David of Alaska visited the monastery and Seminary community. Returning to his monastic and spiritual home, Bishop David was warmly welcomed by the entire community. Metropolitan Herman celebrated 50 years of anniversary of ordination to the Holy priesthood and was congratulated by Bishop David and all present. Also in attendance was his Grace, Bishop Mark.

St. Nikolai Velimirovich and St. Tikhon's - 03/18/14

Today is the Feast of St. Nikolai of  Zhicha. While he was born and lived much of his life in Serbia, his work in America, including several years at St. Tikhon's Seminary, more than qualifies him to also be an 'American' saint.

Metropolitan Tikhon to Serve for Exaltation with Choir Directed by Vladimir Gorbik - 08/13/13

On September 13th and 14th, Metropolitan Tikhon will serve for the Exaltation of the Precious and Life-giving Cross. Vladimir Gorbik will be directing these services of a combined Seminary and lay choir. After this, a newly formed professional choir under Vladimir Gorbik's direction (The Patriarch Tikhon Choir) will continue on to perform in  New York City, Pittsburgh,and Washington D.C. on September 16th, 17th and 18th. Monastery Brotherhood Announces Memorial Day Schedule - 04/29/13

The Monastery Brotherhood invites one and all to the 109th annual pilgrimage to St. Tikhon's Monastery. The pilgrimage begins on Friday, May 24th at 4 p.m. and runs until May 27th at 6 p.m. Metropolitan Hilarion will serve with Metropolitan Tikhon for the Divine Liturgy on Memorial Day Monday. Fr. Igumen Sergius Appointed Interim Dean of St. Tikhon's Seminary - 03/09/13

At the recent board of Trustees Meeting on March 8th, Fr. Igumen Sergius was appointed interim dean of St. Tikhon's Seminary after the departure of Fr. Alexander Atty. Fr. Sergius will work closely with the administration and students to ensure a smooth transfer for the next dean in the fall of 2013. A search committee for a new Dean has been appointed and applications are now being accepted.

Hymns of Holy Russia in the New World - 02/06/13

As part of it's 75th anniversary celebrations, St. Tikhon's Seminary will host a rigorous three-day master class for the select student choirs of three of America’s premier Orthodox Christian seminaries—St. Tikhon’s Seminary, St. Vladimir’s Seminary, and Holy Trinity Seminary—from Feb. 28 to March 3, with world renowned Moscow choirmaster Vladimir Gorbik. As the culmination the master class, the combined seminary choirs will perform a concert of Russian Orthodox liturgical music, sung primarily in English. The concert will take place on Sunday, March 3, at 6:30 pm in St. Stephen's Episcopal Cathedral, 35 S. Franklin St., Wilkes-Barre, PA. St. Tikhon's Monastery Museum to be Displayed at Villanova - 12/23/12

A large portion of St. Tikhon's Monastery and Seminary Icon Repository will be displayed at Villanova University along with six other private collections from October 26th to December 16th. The official opening of the exhibit will be on Friday, October 26th at 5 pm. The Miracle working Icon "She Who is Quick to Hear" will be present for the opening with a Moliben at 6 pm and a reception to follow. The exhibit will have pieces from the 1st century to the present. Fr. Athanasy and St. Anna will visit Miami Florida and the surrounding area from November 16th to the 20th. The schedule is as follows: Friday, November 16th St. Anna will be present to the general public for veneration at Christ the Savior Cathedral in Miami from 5 pm to 7 pm with an Akathist at 7 pm; Saturday the 17th, all day spiritual retreat led by Fr. Athanasy at the Cathedral; Sunday the 18th, Liturgy at St. Justin Martyr Mission in Seminole FL with an Akathist at 1 pm. Sunday evening, St. Stephen's Orthodox Church for an Akathist. Saint Tikhon’s Monastery is seeking photographs for inclusion in a soon-to-be-published book illustrating its history. Photos from 1905 through the present—especially those taken prior to 1970—that show historic personalities, notable events, or landscapes are being sought. Community Fixes Monastery Roof - 08/26/12

With the upcoming winter, we are currently replacing the roof on the main Monastery building. A smaller section has already been replaced last year but this project will make the project complete. St. Tikhon's Day August 13th - 07/28/12

Fr. Archmandrite Athanasy to Give Priest Retreat at St. Tikhon's on August 23-25th - 06/25/12

One of the monastery Brotherhood, Fr. Archimandrite Athanasy (Mastalski), will lead a silent retreat for priests here beginning at Vespers on Thursday, August 23rd and will conclude with Divine Liturgy on Saturday, the 25th. The title of the three talks that will be given are "The Divine Grace that Heals All Infirmities," The Exaltedness of the Priesthood," and "Priestly Helps." Hawaiian Iveron Icon to Visit this Memorial Day - 04/12/12

The Myrrh-streaming Icon of the Most Holy Theotokos from Hawaii will again visit the Monastery this Memorial Day from Friday May 25th at 4 p.m. to Monday May 28th at 3:00 p.m. Healings from cancer, demon possession and blindness have been attributed to the intercessions of the Mother of God through this Miraculous Myrrh-streaming Icon. Monastery to Re-paint for Memorial Day - 03/03/12

In preparation for Memorial Day this year, the Monastery is going to begin some desperately needed repainting of the Bell-Tower, Dining Hall/Trapeza and Garage. The Bell Tower will be done by professional painters due to the danger and size. The cost for this will be $7,000.00. The Trapeza and Garage will be painted by the Brotherhood at a cost of $1,500.00 each totaling $10,000. If anyone would like to donate towards this project, please prayerfully consider contributing towards this beautification of America's oldest Orthodox Monastery. Thank you for the consideration!

Society of the Friends of St. Tikhon's Monastery Meets - 10/03/11

The Society of Friends (founded in 1964) recently met to discuss its upcoming improvements of the Monastery driveway asphalt as well as the upcoming dedication of its recently purchased reliquary for the relics of St. Seraphim of Sarov which will take place on December 6th. The Society of the Friends of St. Tikhon's Monastery is accepting applications for membership which costs $12.00 a year and works to benefit the Monastery. Monastery Now Accepting Items for Museum and Repository - 09/14/11

Abbot Igumen Sergius and Curator Fr. John Perich are pleased to announce that the Metropolitan Museum at St. Tikhon’s Monastery is now receiving donations that will be displayed and housed permanently for the many hundreds of pilgrims that visit our museum each year and will be preserved for future posterity. Such donations including Icons, Relics, and other religious items that would be of historic interest will be considered for addition to our large and precious collection and will be acknowledge with an in-kind tax deductible receipt for the current fair market value. Monastery Financial Review by Parente Beard Complete - 09/02/11

The Monastery has completed its internal audit and the external review of those statements by the Auditors Parente Beard. Bishop Tikhon and Bishop George Concelebrate in Historic Liturgy - 08/14/11

On the Patronal Feast Day of the Monastery of St. Tikhon of Zadonask, Bishop Tikhon of Philadelphia (OCA) and Bishop George of Mayfield (ROCOR) concelebrated Liturgy in the Monastery Church in the presence of the Kursk Root Icon and many clergy and visitors. It was a historic day since the last time a ROCOR Bishop served with an OCA Bishop at the Monastery was almost seventy years ago. Kursk Root Icon to Visit for St. Tikhon's Day August 13th - 07/14/11

With the blessing of Metropolitan Hilarion, Archpriest Serge Lukianov will visit our Monastery with the Miracle-working Kursk Root Icon on August 12th and 13th for the Vigil and Liturgy of our Patronal Feast Day for St. Tikhon. We invite everyone to come to pray before our Lady with us and to join us for Liturgy at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday the 13th and to a festive Trapeza which will follow after the Liturgy. Vigil on the 12th will begin at 4:00 p.m.

Igumen Sergius to Speak at Eagle River Institute - 06/15/11

The Elder, Fr. Archimandrite Zacharias of the Monastery of St. John the Baptist in Essex England, (spiritual disciple of Fr. Sophrony, St. Silouan) visited St. Tikhon's Monastery for a week, blessing us with his words, his presence and his prayers. Memorial Concludes with Great Success - 06/01/11

We give thanks to God and to all those who made this Memorial Day Pilgrimage a great success! We offer special thanks to Archimandrite Zacharias from the Monastery of Essex England for giving the Seminary commencement and sermons during the pilgrimage and to Fr. Archimandrite Athanasy for bringing the Miraculous Icon of St. Anna. May God reward one and all and we look forward to seeing many of you again next year! 

Miraculous Icon of St. Anna to be Present for Memorial Day Pilgrimage - 05/27/11

All are welcome to come to find the grace and the consolation that is present in the Wonder Working Icon of St. Anna throughout this Memorial Day. Innumerable cures from barrenness and cancer are attributed to this Icon of the Grandmother of Jesus Christ and all are welcome to come to partake of the grace and life that flows from the Myrrh streaming Icon of St. Anna.

Monastery Completes Renovations! - 05/15/11

Fr. Zecharias of Essex present for Annual Memorial Day Pilgrimage - 04/03/11

This Memorial Day weekend St. Tikhon's will have the great honor and blessing to have in our midst Fr. Archimandrite Zacharias of Essex Monastery who will be the guest homilist for the Memorial Day Pilgrimage weekend. All are welcome to come hear and meet this truly venerable disciple of Fr. Igumen Sergius to Give Retreat in Kansas City - 03/21/11

On April 2nd and 3rd, Fr. Igumen Sergius will visit St. Basil's Antiochian Orthodox Church in Kansas City, Kansas. He will give a Pre-lenten Retreat on Saturday beginning at 8:00 a.m., will serve Liturgy with Fr. Elias on Sunday, and be the speaker at the Pan-Orthodox Mission Vespers on Sunday night at 5:00 p.m. For more information, contact Fr. Monastery Continues to Renovate - 02/24/11

The Monastery is currently undergoing a much needed renovation project. Insulation and energy efficient windows are being placed in every room along with new carpet and electrical system. We hope that this will considerably lower our current energy bill. Total cost of renovation project for the entire building will be $73,000.00. We currently need approximately $27,000 more to complete the project. We are grateful for anyone who wishes to donate any amount towards this project or if you want to donate to a specific item, an energy efficient window (there are 20 total) for a monk's cell are $350.00 each. Fr. Theodore Petrides to Give Lecture at St. Tikhon's Bookstore Museum - 02/03/11

On February 25th at 7:00 p.m., Fr. Theodore Petrides will give a talk about the life and spirituality of his spiritual father, the Athonite Elder Amilianos of Simonos Petras. The talk will be in the Museum above the bookstore and is open to the general public.

Igumen Sergius to Give Retreat in California - 01/12/11

On February 17th and 18th Fr. Igumen Sergius will give a pre-lenten Retreat at St. Innocent's Orthodox Parish in Livermore, California. Fr. Sergius will bring the Chalice, Gospel Book and Panagia of St. Innocent of Alaska for veneration by the faithful along with the relics of St. Tikhon of Moscow, St. Tikhon of Zadonsk, St. Herman of Alaska, St. Raphael, St. Nikolai of Zicha and St. Alexis. Igumen Sergius Visits St. Matthew's in Wisconsin - 12/05/10

On December 3rd, 4th, and 5th, Fr. Igumen Sergius visited St. Matthew's Parish in Greenbay, Wisconsin giving a Nativity Retreat to the faithful of the Parish and the surrounding Orthodox Communities. The Monastery expresses its gratitude and love to Fr. John, his family and the Parish Community of St. Matthew's who made the retreat a great success!

New St. Nikolai Book Released! - 10/01/10

During the fall, St. Tikhon's Press will release two new St. Nikolai books: the first is a re-print of the coveted "The Universe as Signs and Symbols" which is now available. Click here to order. The second is a Biography of St. Nikolai translated from Serbian by Sister Mihaila which will be available at the end of October or the beginning of November. St. Nikolai was the beloved rector of St. Tikhon's Seminary in the early and mid 1950's and is a powerful presence at the Monastery through his relics, icons, writings,  personal belongings and memories. Acting Superior Hieromonk Sergius Presents a Pre-Lenten Retreat - 02/07/09

On Saturday, February 7, the Greek Orthodox Parish of Loudoun County offered a Pre-Lenten Spiritual Retreat on the theme: "Theosis: Steps Towards Salvation," which was offered by Hieromonk Sergius, Acting Superior of St. Tikhon’s Monastery. Father Sergius also concelebrated the Divine Liturgy with Father George, and was asked to preach the sermon.

Feast of the Meeting of our Lord in the Temple - 02/02/09

On the evening of February 1 and the morning of February 2, the monastic and seminary communities gathered to celebrate the Vigil and Hierarchical Divine Liturgy for the Feast of the Meeting of our Lord in the Temple.

A New Superior for St. Tikhon's Monastery - 01/02/09

Recently, the Monastery has undergone some fundamental changes in administration. The Hieromonk Sergius was appointed acting Superior of St. Tikhon's Monastery and given full administrative and financial authority of St. Tikhon's Monastery and Bookstore. Financial reports of St. Tikhon's Monastery are now available on this web site. Fr. Sergius has had full control of all Monastery and Bookstore finances since November and is available to answer any question or field any concerns that any Church member may have at monksergius@gmail.com. (Fr. Sergius has been at the Monastery for many years but has never been involved with any of the financial history of St. Tikhon's Monastery.) The Monastery is currently conducting an internal audit with the help Fr. Michael Tassos (OCA Treasurer/CPA) and Fr. Dennis Swencki (Controller for the OCA.)

Holy Pentecost - 06/11/06

On Sunday, June 11th, Bp. Tikhon led the monastics and faithful in the celebration of Holy Pentecost. During the Vespers following the Divine Liturgy, the faithful, having completed the fifty day celebration of Pascha, once again offered prayers on bended knees.

Repose of Archimandrite Hilary (Madison) - 08/14/05

With profound sorrow, we announce the falling asleep in the Lord of Archimandrite Hilary (Madison) of the monastery brotherhood at 5:00 AM on Sunday morning, 14 August, the eve of the Feast of the Dormition of our Most-holy Lady. He had been a resident of the monastery for over a decade, and was well known and beloved by not only the monastics, but by the greater St. Tikhon's community as well.

On Monday, May 30th, the 101st Annual Pilgrimage, celebrating the centennial of St. Tikhon's Monastery, concluded as multitudes of pilgrims gathered for the Divine Liturgy, prayer, reflection, and spiritual renewal. The Monastery of St. Tikhon of Zadonsk, North America's oldest monastery, was founded in 1905 by St. Tikhon, Patriarch of Moscow and Enlightener of North America, to serve as a spiritual center for Orthodox Christians on this continent.
